A native Alaskan Tlingit who comes from a family of artists, Dave Galanin draws on the traditional visual language of the Tlingit culture and mixes this with his own unique contemporary artistic stylings when creating these inimitable designs. He has a Bachelors degree in Jewelry Design and Silversmithing from the London Guildhall University in England and is currently completing his M.V.A in Indigenous Visual Arts at Massey University in New Zealand. The choker-style necklace features a hand-carved hummingbird design, with a flower in the center and two hummingbirds feeding on either side. This scene is common in southeast Alaska, as is most of Galanin's art. This stunning piece of sterling silver work is one to keep for generations.
